What is hospice care?

Hospice care is a specialized type of care focused on comfort rather than cure for individuals with a life-limiting illness. The goal is to maximize quality of life, manage pain and symptoms, and provide emotional, spiritual, and practical support to patients and their entire family.

No. Hospice is for patients with a prognosis of six months or less if the illness runs its natural course — but many patients live longer. The focus is on living as comfortably and meaningfully as possible, not on hastening death.

Absolutely not. Hospice is about choosing quality of life. Many families tell us they wish they had started sooner because their loved one was more comfortable, more peaceful, and more present once they began. It’s about living better in the time that remains.

Yes — and that’s exactly what My Home Hospice specializes in. We bring our full interdisciplinary care team directly to your loved one’s home throughout San Antonio and surrounding areas, so they remain in familiar, comfortable surroundings surrounded by family.

Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance plans cover hospice services in full — including nursing visits, physician oversight, medications, equipment, and aide services. In most cases there is no out-of-pocket cost to the patient or family. We will verify your coverage at no charge.

How quickly can hospice care begin after I call?

My Home Hospice offers same-day or next-day admissions. Once eligibility is confirmed and the physician certifies the patient, we can begin care almost immediately. We understand timing matters, and we move quickly to bring your loved one comfort.

Our care includes: skilled nursing visits, physician oversight, pain and symptom management, home health aide services, licensed social work, chaplain and spiritual care, volunteer support, bereavement counseling, and all necessary medications and equipment delivered to your home.

Yes. Choosing hospice is not permanent. If a patient’s condition improves, or if the family chooses to pursue curative treatment, hospice care can be discontinued at any time without penalty. The patient can also re-enroll at a later time if needed.

My Home Hospice provides 24/7 on-call nursing support. You are never alone — day or night, weekday or weekend, a clinical team member is just one phone call away. We respond immediately to urgent patient needs at any hour.

Simply call us at (210) 444-9186. A caring team member will answer — no automated menus. We’ll talk through your situation, answer every question honestly, and guide you step by step. No pressure, no obligation — just genuine, compassionate help.
